#0004 - Every Day is a Holiday

Brief Description:
Did you know that in America, every single day of the calendar has some sort of celebration, observation, or honoring tied to it? Most of us know about the main events like Labor Day, Ground Hog Day, Valentines Day, etc. I bet you didn't know that Dec 16th is National Chocolate Covered Anything Day and January 8th is Bubble Bath Day and don't forget about Jan 6th Cuddle Up Day.
The Date:
In addition to celebrating all kinds of things and events, there is almost a day for everyone to celebrate who they are. There is International Skeptics Day on January 13th, Hug a Newsman Day on April 4th and Pack Rat Day on May 17th.
If you think there are just too many holidays then Jan 16th is for you... it's National Nothing Day. This un-event was created in 1973 with the goal "to provide Americans with one national day when they can just sit without celebrating, observing, or honoring anything."
But I like the idea of celebrating and honoring every day. I think every day we should honor the ones we love, observe the little things that they do for us, and celebrate what makes them special.
If you ever run out of creative date ideas, you can always find an observance or special holiday to build a creative date around. There are quite a few websites that offer a complete calendar for the year of monthly, weekly and daily observances of some kind or another. For instance, there are quite a few days marked as observances of some special kind of food or candy. There's ice cream day, baked cookie day, chocolate day and jelly bean day just for starters.
The ultimate resource guide is the Chase's Calendar of Events w/CD-Rom. The description says:
"The bible of special occasions."--Los Angeles Times. 12,500 entries. 194 countries. 365 days. 50 years and counting!
So live every day as a holiday and make it something to remember for the ones you love.
