Ahh Shiver me Timbers...Did you know that International Talk Like a Pirate Day is in September. What a perfect opportunity to go on a pirate thematic date. Pirate thematic dates can be very simplistic or elaborate, depending on how far you want to go.

It could be as simple as going to Long John Silvers (or any seafood restaurant)...rent your favorite pirate movie like Treasure Island, Peter Pan, or one of the latest Pirates of the Carribbean movies and snack on some Pirates Booty. Pirates Booty snacks come in cheddar cheese or caramel. The caramel is very addicting.

But let's say you want to take it up a notch. Well "Avast Ye Matey" and listen to this...

Thematic dates are generally centered around one theme or idea (we call them sparks) and then expanded through everything related with the theme. Here are some idea sparks* and things related to pirates: Treasure or booty, treasure map, sea, ocean, pirate songs, parrot, sailing, ships, pirate talk or phrases, swords, walking the plank, pirate costumes, chocolate coin candy, beach decorations, etc.

So now we just try to pick a few, or a lot, of these items and make a date out them. The first thing that comes to mind is a treasure map scavenger hunt. Making a treasure map is easy. Draw your map out and tear the edges and then stick it in the oven for a few minutes or use a lighter so the edges get crispy.

So make the treasure at the end of the hunt anything you want, but make it special for the person hunting. The treasure could be you or something that your date really loves or has been wanting. Be creative. Google "Pirate Phrases" for ideas on words for a greeting card or love note. You can almost make a thematic date from anything. The goal is to always be on the look out for creative, out of the ordinary things that could make for a fun memorable date. Like "Talk Like a Pirate Day."
